philippians 2 6 11 commentary
3 Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. as something to cling to. and was born as a human being.
Philippians 2:6-11. 6 Who, being in very nature[ a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing. by taking the very nature[ b] of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man,

Bridgeway Bible Commentary. Christ's example of humility (2:1-11) Paul gives four reasons why Christians should have greater unity between them: the encouragement given them by Christ; the power of Christ's love working in them; the common sharing they have in the same Spirit; and the sympathetic kindness that God's children should show to each other.
One more consideration before we close shop on this passage. Try reading Philippians 2:6-11 and then read the last few verses of chapter three. If one asks what it means to live like the Jesus of 2:6-11 our passage is a plain speech example of what that means. Questions for Reflection and Application

Many regard Philippians 2:5-11 as a hymn of the early church that Paul incorporated into his letter. Some commentators go so far as to suggest stanza and verse arrangements for the "hymn." Philippians 2:6-7 does not mean that Christ became anything less than He was. It does not mean that He ceased to be God because then He would have ceased to be who He was. It does mean that He submitted Himself to the power of the Holy Spirit and the will of the Father. In fact, if you go through

Philippians 2:6-11. 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under

There is no triumphal entry into Jerusalem, no last supper, no betrayal by Judas, no complicit religious leaders, and no Roman overlords.
